Who applies for the scholarship?

  • Challenge Foundation students are hard working, intelligent & motivated to learn.  Their goal is to graduate from one of the best schools in the state & go to college!  They have a positive attitude and treat themselves and others with respect.
  • This scholarship is offered to terrific students whose families cannot afford to pay for such a program on their own.  (The scholarship is worth nearly $10,000 per year, per child!  That is a tremendous investment over seven years, from 6th-12th grades!)

How are the parents involved?

We feel that a parent’s support and encouragement are critical to a child’s success.  Because of this we want to offer our scholarships to children whose parents are very excited about this opportunity & who want their students to get an excellent education & to go to college.

Is transportation provided?

For St. Mary’s Academy:  The Challenge Foundation hires a transportation company to drive a van to St. Mary’s Academy every morning & afternoon.  The van drives from Harrington Elementary south on University/Colorado Blvd to St. Mary’s Academy.  Your child may ride this van to & from school during 6th, 7th & 8th grade.  If you are not able to get your child to the van stops along University & Colorado, we will talk with you about the possibility of carpooling with other families.   In high school, car pooling or public transportation will be used to get to & from school.

For Colorado Academy: School busses transport kids to & from school from various pick up spots around town.

Are meals provided?

Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided during the summer program.  At St. Mary’s Academy during the school year, students have a choice of either bringing a sack lunch or purchasing lunch at school.  At Colorado Academy, a free lunch is provided as part of the scholarship.

Will I be asked to pay any money?

The incredible summer program is free for your student.  For the school year, the Challenge Foundation and your school will pay the majority of your tuition. Each family will be asked to contribute a small portion toward tuition each year. This amount will be determined based on your income and should not be a hardship on your family. There may be some other minor costs throughout the school year, similar to costs in public school.
